The Meaning of Wellness at Brice Pointe

The Meaning of Wellness at Brice Pointe
On February 10, guests gathered at the Carolina Colours Pavilion in New Bern for a Brice Pointe wellness event that offered both inspiration for healthy living today and a glimpse into what wellness will look like in the future community. The event brought together ThriveMore leadership, the Brice Pointe team, and nationally credentialed wellness expertise to explore what it means to live well at every stage of life.
Rooted in Mission, Values, and Meaningful Living
The morning began with an overview of ThriveMore’s mission and values, emphasizing the organization’s 75year legacy as a faith-based nonprofit dedicated to serving older adults. Attendees heard how ThriveMore’s core values — kindness, loyalty, patience, conscientiousness, dependability, and meaningful living — shape everything from daily interactions to long-term community planning.
Brice Pointe, ThriveMore’s planned coastal life plan community in New Bern, is being developed with these values at its foundation. Guests were reminded that values matter, affecting how a community feels when you walk through the door, interact with neighbors, and engage with the team.
Wellness as a Personalized, Whole Life Experience
A highlight of the event was a featured presentation by Dana Reynolds, Wellness Director at Brookridge, the ThriveMore community in Winston-Salem. Dana shared a thoughtful and highly personal approach to wellness — one that extends far beyond diet and exercise.
She described wellness as something unique to each individual, shaped by daily habits, life stage, interests, and goals. She said ThriveMore’s philosophy includes emotional, intellectual, physical, social, occupational, financial, and spiritual well‑being. Wellness, she explained, is not about perfection or deprivation — it’s about balance, awareness, and sustainable daily practices.
Dana also outlined four key elements she focuses on in her programming:
- Nutrition, with an emphasis on balance, enjoyment, and realistic choices
- Movement, tailored to individual preferences and abilities
- Emotional health, including stress management and life transitions
- Sleep hygiene, supporting better rest to improve overall well‑being
Her approach meets people where they are and evolves as their needs change.
Innovative Programs Built Around Real Lives
Guests also learned about wellness initiatives currently offered at Brookridge, many of which are shaped directly by resident feedback. One example Dana shared was Woof Walks, a walking program created in partnership with the Winston-Salem Humane Society. The program combines physical activity, social connection, and animal companionship while helping dogs find forever homes.
Monthly wellness themes, individualized health assessments, group exercise classes, yoga, aqua fitness, and collaborative rehabilitation partnerships were also discussed, showing how ThriveMore integrates wellness into everyday life rather than treating it as a separate activity.
A Vision for Wellness at Brice Pointe
Following the wellness presentation, the Brice Pointe team shared details about the future community planned within Carolina Colours. Brice Pointe will be a full life plan community from day one, offering independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and couples' memory care.
The community will include apartments, villas, hybrid residences, and extensive shared amenities. Wellness-focused features highlighted during the event included:
- Walking paths throughout the campus
- Water views along Carolina Lake
- Outdoor gathering and dining spaces
- A pavilion for events and activities
- Access to Carolina Colours amenities via a pedestrian bridge
Director of Sales Helene Quinones encouraged those in attendance to think proactively about their future, with ample time to plan, explore options, and make informed decisions about retirement living.
Wellness That Grows With You
The event concluded with a Q&A session, where attendees asked thoughtful questions about wellness leadership, individualized support, and real-life outcomes. One story shared described a resident who regained strength, balance, and confidence through personalized wellness coaching — underscoring the powerful impact of meeting people where they are and supporting them over time.
The event left attendees with a clear message about wellness. It’s not a one size fits all program. It’s a lifelong journey supported by community, purpose, and intentional design. As Brice Pointe continues to take shape in New Bern, wellness will remain at the heart of everything to come.
